An MOT Test at Vasstech Durham includes:

    Registration number check

Our technicians check the placement of your registration number to ensure they meet the required standards and ensure that they have not been modified.

    Suspension and steering test

We look under the bonnet and inside the vehicle to check the condition of your steering and suspension for mobility and security.

    Windows and windscreen check

We examine any scratches or fractures within the windows. We also check for chips and scratches on your windows and windscreen as well as testing your washers and wipers.

    Seatbelt, airbags and SRS safety

We thoroughly inspect the seatbelt condition, tension and limiters along with the airbags and supplementary restraint system, to ensure you are driving as safely as possible.

    Fuel, exhaust and emissions

All petrol, diesel and gas-powered vehicles will need to undergo fuel, exhaust and emissions tests. We will ensure the security of fuel system components, check for leaks, chafing and damage and ensure the fuel tank cap and sealant is in good condition.

    External body checks

We carry out a thorough inspection of the body and exterior of your car to ensure a smooth surface with no jagged edges or sharp areas.

    Car mirrors

Your car's mirrors will be examined to ensure that they provide the driver with an adequate view or additionally, your vehicle may be fitted with an indirect vision camera that will also be inspected as part of your MOT test.

    Brakes

The efficiency and balance of a vehicle's brakes are carried out using a brake tester. The brakes on a car are a major safety component; they are examined under the car, under the bonnet and from inside the vehicle, to ensure the wear and condition under all conditions.

Why do you need an MOT test?

MOT tests are a necessity for any car over three years old. The MOT test was introduced by the DVSA and ensures that every vehicle undergoes a yearly evaluation to ensure that it is performing to the correct standard and quality in compliance with specific regulations.

What is the difference between a service and an MOT test?

Car services and MOT tests are entirely different from one another. An MOT test aims to establish if the car is safe to drive on the road and is a legal requirement. A car service will examine the overall state of the vehicle and is not required by law.

    The MOT process

Throughout your MOT test, our experienced technicians at Vasstech Durham will examine the car’s performance and undertake a number of tests and inspections inside the car, beneath the bonnet and under the car.

If your car passes the MOT and is road safe, you will be given a VT20 form, however, if your car fails the inspection, we will issue you with a VT30 form, and this will be registered by our technicians. If your car passes the MOT but has parts which may need replacing or attention before it’s next inspection, we will notify you of it upon collection.

The punishment of not holding a current MOT document will result in a fine, your road tax will be nonrenewable, and you won’t be able to drive your car in the eyes of the law.
