Gumball 3000 Comes to Edinburgh

Last weekend saw the Gumball 3000 Rally hit the streets of Edinburgh and some of our guys were there soaking up the atmosphere and checking out their next dream purchases!
Contestants have to get from Miami, where the race started last week, to Ibiza where the race finishes on June 11th. Around 125 luxury vehicles take part driving the 3000 miles all on public roads. Widely considered less of a race and more of a road trip, some of the drivers flew their cars over from New York to Glasgow Prestwick while others only joined the route once in Edinburgh.
The race draws in entrants from all around the world, each paying an entry fee of £40,000, and this year included presenter Jonathan Ross and actor David Hasselhoff.
Gumball 3000 has not been free from controversy, mainly due to speeding by drivers and road traffic violations but in 2007 two pensioners were killed in Macedonia after their car was hit by a driver taking part in the Gumball race. Indeed, the Hoff got into a spot of bother when he landed himself a speeding ticket on Sunday.
The Gumball Rally was founded by Maximillion Cooper in 1999, who said: “It’s a pretty amazing little road trip and it’s amazing to see turnouts like this in every city we go to”.
