The future is electric for VW as they unveil new branding
On Monday, Volkswagen welcomed a “new era” of carbon-conscious vehicles with the reveal of their new brand.
The sleek design was created with the future of VW in mind, with Jürgen Stackmann, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing and After-Sales commenting that “…the brand is undergoing a fundamental transformation towards a future with a neutral emission balance for everyone. Now is the right time to make the new attitude of our brand visible to the outside world.”
In a savvy commercial move, Volkswagen revealed their new look alongside a presentation of the fully electric ID.301 at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt to reinforce their vision, a future that they claim is “…electric, fully connected and has a neutral carbon balance.”
The new logo is a flat, 2-D version of the iconic VW badge. The original logo has been stripped back to its most elemental self, leaving only the essential lines and colours. This cleaner version reflects the authenticity that Volkswagen considers a part of the “New Volkswagen”.
The logo isn’t the only element of the VW brand to have undergone a revamp, there will also be a change in the voice of the brand from male to female. VW have used a male voice in their advertising messages for decades, and have now decided that it’s time for a change commenting that “On almost all markets, a woman with a warm, pleasant and confident voice will speak for Volkswagen.”
VW is hoping that that the changes will help the brand seem “more human”, with VW’s chief marketing officer Jochen Sengpiehl remarking that they want to “…adopt the customer’s perspective to a greater extent and to tell authentic stories.”
Volkswagen’s rebrand reflects a worldwide trend to embrace a fuelless future with the production of electric cars. Only the future will tell if VW’s rebrand will help them achieve their goals, but we’re definitely a fan of their new, modern look!
