Winter Tyres

As the nights have started to draw in and the temperature has noticeably dropped, now could be a good time to start getting you car ready for winter. Obviously, you need the right tyres for the job. Winter tyres are designed to give you extra grip when driving on snow and ice and also on cold, damp roads.
They have extra deep tread grooves which can increase resistance to aquaplaning and also disperse surface water. The increase grip in the wet is provided by the sipes, the small slits in the tread blocks and these provide better contact between the wet road and the tyre.
Winter tyres aren’t mandatory in the UK, though as we know there have been a few exceptionally cold ones over the last few years (at least by our standards!). They would probably be more benefit to those in the more rural areas rather than large towns and cities as they could prevent you getting cut off.
If you would like advice on the best ways to prepare your vehicle for the winter, why not give your nearest Vasstech branch a call and speak to one of our experts?
